Gregory Stewart
GStewart@bremerton.psasd.navy.mil

My name is Gregory Stewart and I was stationed at Subic Bay, Philippines and NAS Cubit Point from 1984 to 1990.  I took my family up to Camp John Hay  in Baguio atl least three to four times, and we stayed in the Cabins up there and would get up early in the morning and go to the market, and from there we would take the kids to ride the horses in town.  All of the food was great as well.  There was everything that you would need in the cabins, refrigerator, stove and a fire place.  It was such a beautiful place, as well as while we were there we would go to the Philippine Naval Academy which was set up like West Point.  The whole experience was beautiful and I will never forget it.  I do plan to get back up there one day and take a tour.

I worked in John Hay during the early 70’s. I was at Mile High Recreation Center and then at the JHAB Fire department. I last went home to JH in 96 and everything has changed. I was able to stay on base housing overlooking the 19th Hole ( I believe ). Saw many old friends from Police and Fire department. Write me a note if you know me or just want to reminisce. I now live in Mercer Island (near Seattle) and work for a health care company.

Interesting if someone even remembers. I was stationed at Clark and remember staying with my wife and baby (now a medical school student) at CJH and enjoying the cool weather. Still have a nice pic of us on some lake nearby in a paddle boat. We were in our 20s then, 50s now.

Hi.  I lived at Clark for 3 years in the 70's   My family of 6 often went to John Hay for something or another. I remember the golf course. Rolling hills. It was beautiful. I remember an archery range. I remember some dogs that were chained up outside the main building there. I guess it was the R.R. It sure had a cool temp. there too. We stayed in the bungalows. I remember the little pond outside the club.  It had a little bridge. The photo in the scrapbook does'nt show it, but I remember it. Of course we can't forget the lionhead. Sincerially,  Russ Lobb

Hi, my name is Jim Null and I was assigned at John Hay as a TSgt and MSgt with the Security Police from 1989 thru 1991.  Was actually there during the big earthquake in 90 and the volcano in 91.  Another MSgt, Mike Pellichet, and I were the last two US military officially at Camp John Hay before it was turned over to the Phillipine government.  We took the US flag down during the ceremony and then drove with it to 13th Air Force Headquarters at Clark, witnessing all the destruction from the Pinatubo eruption along the way.  My wife, Marilou, and I have been back to John Hay at least 3 times since then and are amazed at how beautiful everything still is.

Hi, I remember the old CJH , I have a preference of how it was, reading some of your post made me somewhat nostalgic, I was surprised to learn of its outcome, haven't having been there personally since, hopefully it has kept a lot of its old character, it was a great place to be. My favorite memories of the place was taking quiet walks and then having a a huge banana split ( a little slice of home). Just wanted to share and thanks again for those that have posted it brings back memories.

We were stationed at Clark Air Force base from 1969 -1973.  My dad worked in the PMEL lab & we lived in the old WWII barn housing on base. My Mother & I went up to John Hay Air Base & I liked it so well I asked to stay the night. Our church Clarkfield Assembly of God use to have yearly retreats at John Hay. We stayed in one of the cabins that had a fire place. We would go down town & buy fresh strawberries & the next morning we would have bisquits & strawberries. That was quite a treat as that was the only time we got strawberries. We also took a trip up there from Silver Wings Recreation center to visit the rice terracces.

I was with the US Embassy in Manila 1981-1984 and remember my wife and myself's one trip to Camp John Hay very fondly.  We stayed at the Ambassador's summer residence which was in its own small sub-compound of the base.  Embassy staff could use the place when the Ambassador wasn't.  It was very nice and very historical.  The mansion dates from colonial days and the main dining room was where Gen Yamashita surrendered in 1945.  Remember eating at the 19th hole and using the shopette which was very convenient.  As I recall by then there was only one American AP at the camp.  It turned out he was the best USAF golfer in the PI and used the assignment to hone his skills. Everyone who served in the PI remembers how awful PLDT was.  However, in the residence we had embassy extensions not outside phones, and could call the embassy as easily as if you were back at your office or at Seafront.  I know this is a funny thing to remember but I was impressed by being able to make an easy long distance call
